Ashley Blackburn, Health Care For All’s Interim Executive Director, issued the following statement on the U.S. Senate vote against extending enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies:
“The Senate’s failure to extend enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies is deeply disappointing. Hundreds of thousands of people in Massachusetts and millions more around the country will see their insurance costs surge. At a time when health care costs are already too high and family budgets are tight, hard-working families will face impossible choices between paying the rent, buying groceries, and keeping their health insurance coverage.
“Our HelpLine staff is already hearing daily from some of the 26,000 people in Massachusetts who will lose access to subsidies altogether – many of whom are facing double or even triple the premium costs for the same coverage.
“We are deeply grateful to our Massachusetts champions in Congress, who are fighting tirelessly to protect health care for people in the Commonwealth. We appreciate their leadership and stand ready to continue working with them to fight for equitable, accessible, affordable health coverage for everyone in Massachusetts.”
