The MassHealth Redetermination Campaign is a unique collaboration between Health Care For All, MassHealth, the Massachusetts Health Connector, community-based groups and health providers to ensure hundreds of thousands of Massachusetts residents retain their health coverage when MassHealth resumes the eligibility redetermination process on April 1, 2023.
HCFA is partnering with MassHealth and the Massachusetts Health Connector on the “MassHealth Redetermination Campaign,” an urgent public information campaign aimed at people who currently have health insurance through MassHealth and other programs such as Health Safety Net.
Operating in 15 municipalities across Massachusetts, the campaign works to ensure Massachusetts residents stay covered – either through MassHealth or another health coverage option such as the Massachusetts Health Connector – as the state resumes MassHealth eligibility redeterminations.
MassHealth members have been protected from losing their health coverage since March of 2020, when the U.S. federal government declared the COVID-19 pandemic a national public health emergency. However, those coverage protections end in April 2023. As a result, all current MassHealth members will need to renew their health coverage to ensure they still qualify for their current benefit. These renewals will take place over 12 months.

HCFA is undertaking a three-pronged outreach approach during the redetermination campaign:
- Community Partnerships. HCFA is collaborating with local culturally and linguistically diverse community- and faith-based organizations (CBOs & FBOs) to connect trusted entities with residents in all target municipalities.
- Door Knocking. HCFA is leading a massive door-to-door canvass operation to initiate face-to-face conversations with residents in each priority municipality.
- Communications Campaign. HCFA is conducting a large-scale communications campaign that includes ad buys in multilingual community print, digital, radio and TV outlets as well as earned media outreach. To reach key populations and reflect the multilingual, multicultural campaign focus, marketing materials are available in Arabic, Cape Verdean Creole, Chinese, English, Haitian Creole, Khmer, Portuguese, Spanish and Vietnamese.
