PRESS STATEMENT:
Health Care For All Commends the Legislature’s Passage Of Bill To Expand Equitable Maternal Health Access
BOSTON – Health Care For All applauds the Legislature for their dedication in passing a bill that will expand critical access to services for birthing people and their families.
As maternal mortality and pregnancy-related complications continue to rise across the country, and with people of color three times more likely to experience pregnancy-related mortality than white birthing individuals, this legislation is a significant step towards reducing these profound inequities. This legislation will provide access to midwifery and doula care, funding for community-based mental health supports, increased screenings for perinatal mood disorders and universal access to postpartum home services for all birthing individuals in Massachusetts.
Health Care For All is grateful to the legislature for prioritizing maternal health equity in Massachusetts, and we urge Governor Healey to sign these essential protections into law to ensure the long-term health and well-being of pregnant and birthing individuals, their families and their communities.
