PRESS STATEMENT:
Health Care For All Applauds House for Moving Critical Prescription Drug Reforms Forward
BOSTON – A statement from Amy Rosenthal, Executive Director at Health Care For All:
“Health Care For All is grateful to the House for passing critical legislation that will help residents across Massachusetts afford the medications they need. The bill includes key provisions to bring prescription drug manufacturers and pharmacy benefit managers into the state’s cost trends process, identify high-cost drugs, and eliminate or cap co-pays for medications used to treat diabetes, asthma and heart conditions.
“The co-pay cap proposal would bring direct relief to individuals and families who rely on chronic condition medications to stay healthy and out of the hospital, and it would be a significant step forward in the fight for health care equity across the Commonwealth. The relief would be felt most acutely by people of color and low-income residents who are more likely to be impacted by one of the chronic conditions and more likely to report challenges affording medications.
“For years, the Health Care For All has heard on our HelpLine from hard-working individuals and families who are struggling to afford the medications they need. The proposal passed by the House today moves Massachusetts one step closer to enacting reforms we have long championed that will make care more affordable, accessible, and equitable. We want to thank Speaker Mariano and Chair Lawn for their leadership on this bill, and we look forward to working with the House and Senate to see these reforms signed into law.”
