Health Care For All Issues Statement on the Massachusetts House Health Care Bill
BOSTON – A statement from Amy Rosenthal, Executive Director of Health Care For All:
“Health Care For All is pleased that the House of Representatives, under the leadership of Speaker Mariano and Chair Lawn, approved health care legislation that takes important steps to protect the integrity of the Massachusetts health care system.”
“In an effort to prevent future crises similar to the current challenges caused by Steward Health Care, the bill will help the state address concerns about sales, mergers, expansions and acquisitions that could erode patients’ ability to access and afford the care they need. Equally important, it creates a Division of Health Insurance that would be given new tools to ensure health insurance premiums are affordable for the people of the Commonwealth. It also adds additional flexibility in the state’s cost growth benchmark process to enable accountability for high-cost health systems.”
