Steve Rosenfeld has devoted his career since leaving public service in 1991 to improving health care in Massachusetts through legal work, nonprofit leadership, and public service. Steve is a retired partner at Rosenfeld & Rafik with a specialty in health access and health benefits law. He has litigated in all federal and state courts with jurisdiction in Massachusetts. Steve also founded HCFA’s sister organization, Health Law Advocates, a nonprofit public interest law firm dedicated to gaining access to health care for vulnerable populations in Massachusetts.
In addition to Health Law Advocates, Steve’s experience in nonprofit leadership includes having served as a senior legal advisor and board member at Community Catalyst, board chairperson of the Massachusetts Advocates for Children (formerly known as the Massachusetts Advocacy Center) from 1994 until 2004, a board member at Commonwealth Care Alliance, board chair of the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Massachusetts and board member of the Boston Center for Independent Living. Previously, he served in the administration of Governor Michael Dukakis, both as chief legal counsel to and as his chief of staff, as well as the Department of the Attorney General, as chief of the Government Bureau. He is married to Hon. Margot Botsford, a retired Associate Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts and lives in Jamaica Plain.
